We went to a pet store yesterday to look at the geckos and saw some that were obviously babies and then a couple that looked older. She held the older gecko, but told the associate to take him, because he was going after her thumb. LOL

I know my daughter wants to hold her gecko, but was wondering if she should get a baby gecko or an older one? What are your suggestions?

Babies will be a big squirmy but when handled regularly will get used to her holding it.

It depends on how small of a "baby" you are talkng about. If we are talking the tiny hatchling size, with your daughters age, I would recommend an older one. Babies are very small and fragile and as Venus said a bit squirmy.

Well, I'm not sure on the age of the gecko's that we saw at the store. How would I know on the age other than size?

Age is just a number that doesn't really reflect on the size and handle-ability of a gecko, they grow at different rates depending on their care.
Babies are more wiggly and more apt to drop their tale, you might look for a juvenile, they will be a bit bigger and their stripes will be turning into their adult pattern....just have her hold a few and see what she thinks, you could also go for an adult, I got one of my girls as an adult and i've had her for 7 years she is the sweetest little thing.
