Re: holding baby gecko
I held Lefty 1-2 times a week when I first got him, and now that he's a bit bigger and used to hands going in and out of the tank, I take him out every couple of days...he loves it and is very active when he's out!

Re: holding baby gecko
I think it's better to hold them when they are young so they can adapt to being held. Zeppelin is out of the tank three times a week and adores it. He will literally crawl into my palm when I introduce my hand to him.
But I've also heard all geckos are different. Some appreciate being out, some just want to be left alone. I agree with AnnaRW, and think that a couple of times a week would be sufficient. Good luck! |

Re: holding baby gecko
A good test is to just slowly drop your hand into the tank, so he can see it. Geckos are so curious, he'll likely come sniffing around after a minute or so. If not, and he hides, just take it away and try again. I did this pretty much every day when I first got mine as a little one. Lefty would always come looking and eventually just crawled right on to my hand. Now he knows what it means and if the hand comes in and he doesn't feel like coming out, he doesn't even come near. If he wants to, he crawls on, holds on tight and comes out to play.

Re: holding baby gecko
Do not bother the tail!
Leopard geckos have the ability to autonomously drop their tail if they feel threatened. You may end up with a tailess gecko.
