Question About My Leopard Gecko

ok I was wondering how many crickets you all buy for your leopard gecko because mine went through 2 dozen in 3 days, also I was wondering should I just keep newspaper at the bottom or should I switch to turtle turf.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

Substrate is up to you. You should put as many crickets in as he/she will eat in about 10 minutes. Also its best to feed outside of the enclosure to ensure no crickets hide and use your gecko as a snack.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

if they are going through a lot, consider mail order. its much cheaper. 500 crickets for less than $20.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

I would put a few in at a time so he can chase them. Here is a link to a simple moist hide.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

Take a little creative license, if your container is too tall to put a hole in the top then put it in the side, just remember it has to be up high enough on the box that the moist medium doesn't get dragged out all over the tank.

Do you like having the lights on in your room all night? No? I doubt the gecko will either, you should give them 12 hours of light and 12 of dark so you don't screw up their photo period. They are nocturnal and like the dark.

Absolutely not!
I have read of several cases where a gecko got it's leg in the space between the inside section of the thing and the glass of the tank. When the outside section was put back in place the magnets, pulling the two halves together, caused the edge of the hide to crush the gecko's leg between it and the glass.
It looks like its a great idea but it wasn't thought out very well.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

I have to say I have that hide, and have had one that for 3 years now or close to it. Never gotten hurt, but I also made sure that none of them were in their when I checked and if they were I made sure no legs were there. Now I just use it in the cage and not with glass in between it. So it is just a hide now.
I will say ive pinched my self a few times cleaning it though.

Re: Question About My Leopard Gecko

That container in the instructions is not as large as the picture may depict. I actually wrote the tutorial and use that with both hatchlings and adults. Both get in and out of it without an issue.

For the hatchlings, I add a piece of rock or driftwood to the side of it though to make getting in easier. Getting out is never an issue.
