better or worse?

Hi everyone,

I had a little prob. w/ Noah the leo, and I'm not sure if the way I handled it made it better or worse. There was what appeared to be some what skin on the end of his toes - looked like the remnants of a shed. So, I soaked him in warm water for about 45 minutes, then was able to pick it off. It had been on three toes. The first one didn't have much, so it came off pretty easily, almost pealed off like rolling down pantyhose. The other two had a little bit more, and one of them appeard to be almost 'strangulating' the two about half-way up. I deduced the strangulation from the fact that, where it started mid-way down the toe, it was dented in a little - sort of looked like if the elastic on pants were a little too tight, how it would make a little dent there in a person's skin. So, that's how the toe was. Anyway, I manged to peel that extra skin off, too, but it took a little more effort than the first one. The third tow was in between the other two in terms of 'severity', and I got the extra skin off that one, too. He didn't seem to like any of this because I had to lightly restrain him, but it didn't seem to hurt him, either.

The problem is that, after doing this and putting him back in his enclosure, I noticed that the area where I had removed the skin was sort of raw, almost how it would look if I had pealed off all the skin, not just the extra, unshed part. It's not bleeding, it just looks sort of stripped. Well, I feel bad about this. But maybe it's normal and the skin will grow back, and he'll be fine? (I hope).

Questions:

Did I handle the initial problem correctly?
How should I treat the current problem, if at all?
Have I permanently damaged the poor little guy?

Thanks for the input.

Jennifer

Re: better or worse?

Sometimes it does more damange than good and it probably would have come off with the next shed but no worries he will be fine I am sure. I would just put some neosporin ointment on it and keep and eye on it.
