Re: still problems

When did you move him to his perfect home. He may be stressed from the change. What are your temps like?

Re: still problems

well I moved him about a week and a half ago and he has a healed broken leg, he was shedding for 3 days (all better now) and ive found out that he was calcium deprived and has bad bones, he walks on his wrists and drags his belly so I was told that he really needs to eat and im not sure how else to do it other than be forcing him and I dont want to hurt him by forcing food down his throat... ive been feeding him banana baby food mixd with calcium and vitamines but he still wants nothing to do with live food

Re: still problems

Have you tried using a syringe or eye dropper to at least put some food on his lips so he licks it off.

Re: still problems

You really shouldn't be feeding a leopard gecko fruit, they are carnivores.

Get a syringe from your vet, make a mixture of chicken or turkey baby food, Ca powder, and pedialyte. Heat until luke warm, suck it into the syringe and drop it onto the geckos nose.
Do this twice a day and feed the gecko as much as you can. It sounds as if your gecko is in horrible shape. I don't know under what circumstances it got this way, but you will need to devote a lot of time to the gecko and chances are things might never improve.

After 2 years my gecko still doesn't feed himself. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.
If this sounds like too much work then find a reputable rescue that wont put him down before he deteriorates any more.

Re: still problems

Have you had his stool checked for parasites? As far as the baby food I would switch it to a meat product. Gerber puts out chicken with no fillers in it, just chicken. Sometimes a good de wormer helps a lot if that is the problem. Did the vet give him a shot of calcium?

Re: still problems

You might also want to purchase some Nutribac. It helps the digetive track by bringing back the good bacteria and actually increases the appetite. I have used this for my Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos and it helps.

Re: still problems

well I took him into my care a few weeks ago and I found all of these problems out on my own im trying really hard to help the little one but I guess the vet didnt really know what he was doing either that or he just didnt care, he didnt give him a calcium shot or take a stool sample just asked me what it looked like and told me to feed him banana baby food mixed with calcium and that he will come arond... Im going to switch to chicken baby food and continue mixing with calcium

do you really think he will never eat on his own?

Re: still problems

I should probably rephrase on the whole not eating on his own thing.

Scooter doesn't eat the liquid diet anymore (unless he goes off food and I force him into it) but for the most part he eats solid food, but because of his disabilities (rubber jaw, bone deformities, poor vision) he just can't chase food down, I either have to behead it or hold it for him with tongs.

I would recommend that you try to find another vet, they are invaluable assets.
Looks for a good vet here:
Herp Vet Connection
ARAV

When you call to get an appointment make sure they have a reptile/exotic specialist on staff....this should help you weed out the well meaning know nothing people.
