Re: Baby Leopard Gecko

Thanks for your comment moshpitrockchick, I understand what your saying. I have been thinking about changing the substrate for a while, now that you've shown me examples of how dangerous it can be, I think I will just remove the calci sand tonight. I don't want to take any chances with Yubaba. She's my first Leopard Gecko and I just want to take care of her well.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko

I see you already read the link to my thread.

However my little guy had the same dark patch in his belly area.
It is possible that your gecko has ingested sand and is facing impaction.

-Get the sand out ASAP. For now I just put newspaper down, if my little guy pulls through this I will switch to a fake carpet style (astro turf).

-Give him a warm water bath for 15 minutes or so each day, the warmth will help get his digestive system going, and if I'm not mistaken he will also absorb some of the fluids through his skin.

-Take him to a non-domestic vet, if there isn't one in your area, tell the vet that you are facing impaction, I was given a small amount of medicine to give him each day to help pass the sand through my leo's system.

-You are going to have to force feed him. Don't ram food down his throat, just place drops of it on his nose, it will bug him enough he will lick it off. Since your leo probably isn't willing to eat on his own this will help get some food into his digestive system to pass the sand.

-I don't know how reptiles work that much, but if it's anything like humans hes going to need lots of rest as well. Try not to bug him too much or stress him out.

I hope everything works out for you and your leo. I know that I would be so sad if Gex didn't pull through.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko

too cute! That is how Sunshine looked when I got her..then I didn't know they changed as much as they do when they grow ha ha but they are sooo cute both ways. Sunshine lost all her spots on her back and gained lots of orange on her tail.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko

Thanks for the advice XerXer00, I'm just going to keep a close eye on her because she seems to be perking up now, she seems alot more interested in her food after a few days rest in her warm hide. Because her skin is abit translucent, it might be her internal organs, or a cricket she ate. But if she doesnt show any improvement or is losing weight then I'll be taking her straight to a vet.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko

Hey again, okay I've now noticed that she seems to be drinking a lot more. I keep seeing her urate but not much faeces. She doesn't seem to be getting skinnier or fatter..I took her up to the reptile expert at the reptile shop and he said that she's fine, but she needs fattening up. If she doesn't put on much weight soon, the guy said he would take her for a few days to see what's wrong. At the moment, I'm just leaving her alone, I don't want to stress her out too much, but I will be observing her to see if she's doing okay.
Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted with more pics to come
