Humidity in tank for Leopard Geckos.

Hey, we're new here and we're new owners of Leopard Geckos. I just read on the caresheet for Geckos from this site that they should have 10% humidity, which seems right since the gauge on there reads "desert." The specialist at PetCo said that it should be about 50% humidity. My question is which is best for multiple, baby Geckos (3) and which is better all around? Also, how would I lower the humidity? It was naturally around 60 when we first put it in the tank, and it's at 65 currently.

Re: Humidity in tank for Leopard Geckos.

are your temperatures high enough? a warmer bulb plus a screen top would lower humidity. I'm not a gecko person so i don't know the proper humidity, but i can tell you how to lower it.

Tell us about your set up. Tank size, substrate, furniture etc. Do you have any heat source?

Re: Humidity in tank for Leopard Geckos.

Our temperature is at 85 degrees and there's a screen top to the tank. There's a 75 watt bulb on top of the tank, and a heat pad underneath the same area of the tank. We have a rock they can hide inside of on the cold end, a hollow log on the warm end they could hide beneath, and a piece of driftwood they can climb/bask on. Food and water is also on the cold end, and the substrate is sand.

How big is the tank? Do you have a moist hide? How old are the geckos?

Re: Humidity in tank for Leopard Geckos.

There's no moist hide. The tank is a twenty gallon tank, and the geckos are babies (not sure of the weeks/months)

Re: Humidity in tank for Leopard Geckos.

Your set up sounds pretty good off, I would recommend a moist hide. a lot of people seem to think animals from dry climents like it really dry, though these spend a great deal of time in burrows that are more moist. A humidity of 40-60% is good you can go lower provided they have a humid area to go to.

Your 75 watt should be producing more than needed surface heat. If you can get yourself a IF thermomotor and check the surface temp. They will most likely be about 95-100F if 85F is your air temp on the warm side.
