Leo apppetite change

I am starting to get concerned about my leo's appetite. She has been a really good eater but after her last shed her appetite has dropped drastically. She still has a fat tail but she is only eating a few mealies every few days. Before her last she she was eating 8-12 small/medium mealies daily and would occasionally have a day where she was not interested. She is popping still and seems to be fine. Is this normal or should I be concerned. I am going to try to reintroduce crickets and see if she will eat them again. She used to eat them and then refused them and only ate mealies with an occasional treat of waxworms. Could she be bored with mealies. Sometimes she will sniff or even lick them when I put them in her enclosure and then she just turns her head and walks away.

Any suggestions? Her temperatures are regulated correctly (84-86 during the day, mid 70's at night) and she is in a low traffic area.

Re: Leo apppetite change

Could it be that she is gravid? Many lizards carrying eggs will slow down and stop eating.
With the developing eggs there isn't much room for food.

B*tchface's appetite seems to drop off when the seasons change, I haven't seen the change yet, but it does happen from time to time, some years are worse than others too. Thus far shes been ravenous though.

Re: Leo apppetite change

I think sometimes their eating increases with age as well (wish mine did, lol). Most of my adults would only eat every 2-3 days, so it sounds kinda normal to me.

Re: Leo apppetite change

I wouldn't be too concerned yet. If you find that she is losing weight quickly, then maybe you should be worried. Right now though, she could just be feeling the barometric pressure change and acclimating to it.

I have a few Leopard Geckos that don't eat daily and haven't for years. They are still healthy and the food is there all the time.

I would just keep an eye on the weight and keep offering food. Is she big enough for superworms? They are much more active than mealies and many Leopard Geckos favor them for this reason.

Re: Leo apppetite change

I am not sure about how big she should be for superworms? If I measure her and weigh her can you tell me if she is big enough?

As for being gravid, I highly doubt that. I have had her since February and she has been by herself that entire time.

Re: Leo apppetite change

Ducky still wasn't eating as much as usual. She would sniff the mealies and turn her head. So I figured I would try crickets again. She stopped eating them a few months ago. Well, she went crazy for the crickets and ate almost a dozen of the smaller sized ones. I also bought larger mealies. The mealies I was getting have been pretty small. So I went up to the bigger size. I checked out the superworms but they seemed WAY too big.

Re: Leo apppetite change

Its awesome to hear she is eating the crickets! Supers are certainly for larger Leopard Geckos, so use your judgement.
