Reddish Tail
I'm new to this site....
We inherited an injured leo about 4 mos ago. He had lost his tail and several toes. The tail had begun to grow back by the time we got him. It was like a nub. Currently his tail is getting wide and has significantly grown----not all the way yet, but its getting there. Today we noticed a reddish tinge to it. It looks like someone used a pink highlighter on it. The majority of the tail is this red color. Any thoughts? Is this a vet emergency? |

Re: Reddish Tail
Hello,
Many regenerated tails have pinkish tones. Without a picture to see exactly what it looks like, we would be guessing. |

Re: Reddish Tail
I added 3 pics into my gallery under my username. I also believe I attached them to this post. For a gen x er, I'm techie impaired. I tend to surround myself w/ tech oriented people. I hope that I did this right....
The reddish color is new. We only saw it yesterday. It is possible that she may be ready to shed and this is a new color...but we have no idea. She doesn't seem to be in pain. She's eating & drinking like the little piggy she is. She is also still active, she likes to climb her fake bonsai tree. I'd appeciate some input...I just love that little beastie so much! |

Re: Reddish Tail
She's actually on the ground of her tank. We use repti-bark. Our other girl, Strawberry Shortcake, hates sand...she won't even walk on it. I don't think she realizes that she's supposed to be a desert beast. So we use repti-bark w/ her tank. B/c Starbuck had an issue w/ sand blockage, we used the repti bark w/ her too. You can also see the "root" of her fake bonsai tree. Its an aquarium tree, but each of our geckos seem to enjoy climbing it.

Re: Reddish Tail
Looks to me like she has a "carrot " tail....orange colored....I see nothing to worry about....well except the bark....I would get rid of it....

Re: Reddish Tail
If she had a carrot tail...why wouldn't we have seen that coloring when her tail first started to grow in? Can you only see the carrot color once the tail reaches a certain length? It just really freaked us out having never seen that color on her before.
Our Strawberry Shortcake is also an awesome climber. She has a chameleon tank w/ screens on the sides. She climbs the screens, straight up and down. She also has a waterfall in her tank. We started w/ a misting volcanoe turned on occasionally and upgraded to a waterfall after we noticed that she liked wading in the water. She's an odd girl. She loves being "rained" on. I think she really ruined us as gecko keepers. We just expect our Starbuck to be like "Cake" but she's totally different! |
