interesting shed

One of my Leopard Geckos is shedding, like right now. He's well along in the process; his old skin is hanging on him like loose pantyhose (gross image, but it's effective). Anyway, it appears to me that the other gecko is helping me with the shed. Can this be? They are both in the moist hide, and the shedder is basically still, while the other one is kind of moving around - like mild activity, not the normal chillin'-out-in-the-moist-hide way. What do you guys think?

Re: interesting shed

There sheds are actually a normal thing for them to eat. I've had 2 Leopard Geckos for over 5 years now and have not once found shed in the tank, it has been consumed EVERY time.

Re: interesting shed

Ken,

I'm not surprised that they are eating it, I'm surprised that the other one seems to be helping the shedder shed. In other words, they are both eating the skin off the one that is shedding. Have you ever observed or heard of this, or am I hallucinating?

Re: interesting shed

I have seen it on occasion, when they are in the same hide.....which for mine is rare.

Re: interesting shed

It's not so much as the gecko is helping the other one.
They are both dining on the same food source.

Re: interesting shed

Hello,

The shed skin contains nutrients, so the other eating the shed isn't abnormal. I own 13 Leopard Geckos, and I have seen several do the same in the past. I have also seen some of the Leopard Geckos shed, not eat all of their shed skin, and others come along and eat it for them. lol
