How to moisten the moist hide |
| This is what our member has to say: We have tried towels (washcloth) and moss. Both started to smell bad after a day or two. Papertowels also dried out real fast.... |

Re: How to moisten the moist hide
Hello,
There are several different substrates you could use in a moist hide. I prefer to use sphagnum moss, and it has worked great for me. Some people use "sand", and then keep it moist. Others use vermiculite, and it too retains moisture very well. When using something like papertowel, you need to moisten it daily when you change the water. What type of moss were you using? In my experience, sphagnum doesn't have much of an odor unless one of the Leopard Geckos has decided to defecate in there. The moist and warm air can quickly ferment stool, and that doesn't smell very pleasant. |

Re: How to moisten the moist hide
I use vermiculite for both of my hides and for my incubation and have not had a problem. I also used bed-a-beast before vermiculite it didnt last as long but worked alright

Re: How to moisten the moist hide
I use a paper towel and I moisten it every day. I have never noticed any odor. I tried moss but she refused to enter her hide while the moss was in there.
