changing substrate
Dear Herpephiles,
Tomorrow I am going to change my Leopard Geckos' substrate from Bed-a-Beast to slate. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to make the transition less stressful for them. For instance, where should I put them while changing their habitat (I've only had them two weeks, so this is the first change)? How will they 'feel' about their other habitat being gone, and this one being foreign to them? Thanks for any input you can offer. Jennifer Gal |

Re: changing substrate
Hello,
You can place them in any temporary container while you alter their enclosure. I typically use critter keepers or sterilites. (I own 13 Leopard Geckos.) Make all the changes you need to make, and thenplace them back in. They will likely look around for a few minutes if there is no commotion around them, and then will find themself a hide to hang out in. I have not had many issues with them getting overly stressed from enclosure changes. My Leopard Geckos are several years old however, so they are accustomed to the routine. (Once a week everything is removed from their enclosures for a thourough cleaning. I typically place it all back the same way it was removed though.) |
