What is the difference between a rheostat and a thermostat?
Merlin, I checked the link you provided and I only saw Under Tank Heater I couldn't find thermostats are they available through that site?

Re: ? about tank temperatures
They are listed under "controls" on most sites, including the link Merlin posted.

Re: ? about tank temperatures
I've never found any cheap thermostats that you can simply plug into like a rheostat. Basically a rheostat has a knob to control a variable resistor inside which can regulate the current output. A thermostat has the capability of doing it automatically whatever you have it set to.

Re: ? about tank temperatures
A rheostat is basicly like a light dimmer switch and controls the flow of power. Its like a high and low switch. You set it but if the ambient temperature in the room changes you have to keep fiddling with it to keep within your parameters. A thermostat measures the temperature in the enclosure and adjust the heating element automatically.
The thermostats are on HerpSupplies.com - Reptile Supplies, Vivarium, Reptile Accessories, Reptile Habitat, Reptile Lighting, Zoo Med, Reptile Supply, Lizard Supplies, Reptarium, Rep-Cal, Flukers, Reptile Bedding, Fresh-Air Habitat, Reptile Heat Pads
A rheostat will run you $15 and the thermostat $23
