Re: help please

My leopard geckos' appetites do seem to vary a lot. Is Scorch an adult or a juvenile?

Re: help please

Cool. Many new keepers try to feed prey that is too big. You should be feeding crix that are approximately the length of the width between the lizards eyes.

Re: help please

With a juvi, I think you should definitely expect growth spurts and variations in the amount they eat. Heck, my adults will really vary in their appetites. They will go through phases where they just don't feel like eating much (for weeks, even), maybe a cricket or two once or twice a week, and then go back to eating half a dozen crix every other night. On the evenings when he eats them up fast, it's OK to offer more, and keep going, a few at a time, until he loses interest. My view is, if he's eating, he probably needs the food (as long as it's crickets and not something really fatty like waxworms, which should only be offered as an occasional treat).

Re: help please

Personally I feed my Leo a variety of prey items including gut-loaded crickets, butterworms, superworms, and mealworms. He'll eat anywhere from 0-6 prey items per day with the usual number being 4. The appetite of my Leo seems to vary regularily.

"How big are the crickets you are feeding him?", "I feed Scorch small crix"

-By small crickets, you probably mean pinhead or 2-week olds. In which case I wouldn't worry about him pigging out a little bit.
