Re: breeders

I'm no expert but maybe 2 weeks is a bit short for a non-breeding period. Maybe the temperature or humidity has fluctuated as to signal an end to their typical breeding "season" (I use "season" as a word to describe their typical time of breeding in the wild). If there hasn't been a fluctuation in temp. or hmd. then it's probably something else.

In any case, Rich should be along shortly to give a better angle on this.

they are all big and healthy temp and humi. are all the same u think I should wait longer cause my one female last year laid 22 eggs back to back every two weeks when I was planing on breeding them my temp is 85-92
and 10%-15% is that ok

Re: breeders

OK, your breeding temps sound good to me (I'd wait for Rich to back that up though), but your humidity is low (maybe up it to 30-35%).

Although I'd be careful to note that the temperature doesn't get above 92 when incubating as this has been know to be fatal for the developing embryos. Incubating temperatures of less than 82 will yield mostly (if not all) female offspring. Incubating temperatures of 89-91 for the first two weeks will often yield males (although there is some risk of embryo death if eggs are kept at this high of a temperature for the full duration of time spent in the egg).

I'm assuming you are a somewhat experienced breeder, so I won't bother you with more details on proper egg care, unless you want my two cents on that.

Oh, by the way, the typical breeding season for leopard geckos is January to August.

Re: breeders

I'd listen to Mike- he had to have brain reduction surgery just to maintain a level of "genius".

Actually his advice is solid, barring Rich coming in here and demolishing all of us.

Edit: You have a 96% hatch rate, you're just almost out of eggs? Ummm....Maybe ask them nicely to make more? Perhaps letting your female have a 'cool down' period works. I have to do that with my Crested Geckos for a bit, sometimes as short as a few weeks after a few clutches. Could be they are also low on protein and calcium and are resorbing eggs. Try boosting that.

Re: breeders

Thanks for the comment Steve. I'm far to modest to admit being that smart, hehe.

This site does allow you to post pictures! In fact we have a gallery!

And PLEASE use the spell check feature and punctuation. Your post is very difficult to read and make out what you are saying when everything runs together.

Re: breeders

Hello,

If your leopard geckos have already bred this season, they don't need to keep breeding. In "most" cases, a single breeding session will produce eggs all season. In addition, the female can actually retain the sperm and not lay on any given season if she chose to. She could then use that sperm the next season without even being bred. (It's called sperm retention.)

Once they have bred, the females will begin laying eggs every 4-6 weeks. If your leo is/was laying eggs every 2 weeks, she is/was depleting her calcium reserves at an extreme rate and that is likely why she has stopped dropping eggs.
