Whats the best kind of heating?
I've had the same lamp for about a year and I'm not sure whether or not It's keeping my leo warm enough. If u have any preference with lamps and lightbulbs, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!! |

Re: Whats the best kind of heating?
For a leo the best is a Under Tank Heater. If that does not keep it warm enough at night use a red bulb.

Re: Whats the best kind of heating?
Agreed! You really need a good thermometer! Temperature is something that you can't guess at.

Re: Whats the best kind of heating?
Make sure the thermometer is digital...the stick on ones and the dial ones are horrible and shouldn't be in existance...But yeah...a Under Tank Heater of some sort...either a pet brand, a human heating pad with no autoshut off, heat rope, heat tape...etc...as long as it heats their belly. Lights tend to evaporate things to quickly and don't really heat up the ground (depending on what substrate your using.

Re: Whats the best kind of heating?
I prefer under tank heating for smaller tanks. For larger tanks, I haven't found a undertank heater thats up to the job. I use Ceramic Heat Emitter's or spot lighting based on what I'm housing. Most lizards get spotlights. Lighting or Ceramic Heat Emitter's do dry out cages quickly so there best used for animals with mid to low humidity requirements.
While a thermometer with a probe is needed in every cage it's readings aren't really representative of the ground temp. that most reptiles need for heat. I would recomend to any one to have a IR Heat gun to check ground temps.
