How many mealworms?
Hello
I've been feeding a diet of crickets to Cleo, but I'll start next week supplementing it with mealworms and waxworms. I was planning on feeding crickets every day and 3 days a week adding some mealworms (besides the crickets) and once a week feeding a waxworm. Matt told me that I could rais waxworms to 2-3 weekly, but how many mealworms weekly? Thanks for your help. |

I'm not a leopard gecko keeper myself, but i'm sure you can feed the mealies on the days you dont feed wax worms, just dont give to many as they are exoskeleton and are harder to digest
thats what I do with my Bearded Dragons, i give one or the other on certain days ![]() |

Yeah, meal worms are fine fed on a frequent basis, but they do have a hard exoskeleton, sometimes making them more difficult to digest. We feed our geckos a few wax worms every few weeks - we only buy them as treats and share them between all the lizards and frogs when we get them. Don't feed too many of these, two reasons: 1)they are very fattening, 2)your gecko/s will get the taste for them and refuse to eat anything else!!
How big/old is your gecko? We have two little girls that are 13 weeks old,. they have medium black crickets every night, which are shaken in calcium 2x per week, nutrobal (multi-vitamins) 1x per week, probiotics 2x per week, and are left without any supplement 2x per week. They have had a few mini meal worms, although they are not huge fans of them yet, and they have now learned after a little coaxing, that wax worms are very tasty - although I think they also like them because they are slow moving and easier to catch ![]()

Thanks for your reply.
I don't really know how old Cleo is, I measured her the other day and she was around 4.5 inches snout to vent and around 3 inches tail (she didn't liked the ruler, so the measurements are aproximate). I have been giving her crickets crovered in vitamins (ReptoLife) 3 times a week and covered in calcium 2 times a week. And next week I'll start adding the mealworms and waxies... |

One waxie a week is plenty and mealies are pretty much good anytime as well as crickets.

lol, yeah, I warned that the gecko might refuse all other food if it gets too used to waxies. Pad's got an aweful lot of waxies and mealworms, well, and crix for that matter. Think 3 a week is too much? Just trying to help her get rid of some of them waxies while still not feeding too many to Cleo.

Shame I don't live where you are .. my lizards would sure help you get rid of a few mealies, wax worms and crix
How old is your gecko now? I don't think 3 a week is too much while he/she is still young and growing, just make sure he/she doesn't get too used to the taste After you finish them off, leave him/her with no wax worms for a short period.
