earthworms and food
I just read in the july issue of Reptiles Magazine that earthworms can be used as food for certain reptiles. I wouldn't mind using the earthworms as food because I can get them in my back yard.
Any Comments on earthworms?

Re: earthworms and food
be sure to get your worms from a pesticide/fertilizer free area.

Re: earthworms and food
I've used them for a while with toads, sallies, and my turtles but I never have tried them with my Leopard Geckos. They do contain alot of waste.

Re: earthworms and food
Earthworms can carry alot of things, such as pesticides, herbicides or even pollutants from the city. When I do the rare feed of earthworms from my yard, which chemicals isn't used on, I take them from the center of the yard incase neighbours are bad and use chemicals. That lowers the chance they can pick up stuff, slightly.
Still, they are kinda sucky as food. Filled with dirt, most of my animals won't even touch them. Those that do eat them, mutilate them and make a huge mess to get most of the dirt out. A fun treat every now and then, not really a staple.

Re: earthworms and food
Yes I never thought to use them as a staple just as a backup food in case I need a quick fix.

Re: earthworms and food
You can milk them of the dirt a bit. By squeezing and running your fingers down. It works with the larger dewworms.
