parasites

hi all to the people that I have been talking to about my 3 babies. 1 being pepper that passed away due to a parasite.
well when she died I got the fecal sample results from pepper. (£30) salt and vinegar needed treatment just in case the parasite spread, which it did to salt. salt never eat for 2 weeks and was losing weight, vinegar was still eating and well. the vet issued me with some medicine which I had to use a sringe in there mouth. metronidazole syrup medicine. iam so glad I did use it. it was a mission to get them to take it and it was every 24 hours for 4 days. i never wish it appon anyone to do this. it had to be done else I would lose salt and then possibly vinegar. last night salt had her first cricket in 2 weeks and lots of meal worms today. hopefully this medicine works.
if you ever come across ill leo's syptoms, losing weight, not eating, passing just water, being sick and generally looking so glum. go to the vets get some of this.
i'll see if I can get some pics up. thanks all

Re: parasite's

I have had to do this on THREE geckos. The first two were the first two I ever got and I couldn't lose them, and the third I think was the one that gave it to them because she came from a pet store and was quarentine but was clean. Well neatless to say I had three geckos and three meds. One I had to give for four days, another for 7 and another for 14. And then I had to repeat the one for 4. And neatless to say I have used the metro one. And its been 2 months now and my geckos are almost back to their normal weight. And am I ever happy I took them to the vet and everything!

Re: parasite's

When you are given a medication from a vet, it is intended that you give all the medicine to the end of the recommended time duration. Stopping early may not only not allow the medication to work properly but the parasites may develop an immunity to the medication forcing you to go with something harsher to eradicate them.

I agree
Meds are prescribed for parasites to deal with the parasites life cycle in the host and it is very important to continue the meds for the entire time of prescribed treatment

I would call your vet and explain and see if he wants you to restart the treatment and give an entire course or just pick up where you left off
Good Luck with your leopard geckos and I am sorry to read of your loss
