Stressing Again

Alright so as most of you know I had an accident with one of my females tails. I am putting neosporn on it. But the whole lower half where the tail got hit is slowly becoming hard and red. Will this fall off on its own? And then I know I should worry because they are eating (a few in the upwards of 20 crickets every other day). Well for a while there they all had a very solid poop, now it has become runny again. I don't have the money to take them back in. Its only been a month. I do have to treat with panacur starting 4-21 threw the 25. And then I am done for good. But should I be worried. And a part of me has thought about just putting the three of them down. Even though it would kill me to do it. But I can't keep putting money into them and I can't keep stressing myself out. They still aren't back up to weight. A petrie is 40 grams her normal is 50. Ducky is at 45 grams her normal is 55. And Ali is at 58 and her normal is 68 to 75. Should I be stressing out. Everyone has their own tank. I am not doing anything different. I was my hand between each handling of each gecko. All my geckos are very healthy except these three. Help I am going to go crazy. A part of me has thought about adopting all of them out! And just keeping one to two of them. Not breeding or anything.

Sorry to hear of your troubles....sometimes things like this just happen....have you checked into the supplier of crickets...there is a possibility that the parasites could be coming from them....just a thought.....best wishes....

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but it does sound like you need to part with some of them if you cant afford it. Alot of people get in over their heads not realizing how much money it takes to care for mutliple reptiles. Best of luck.

Hi, if these are the same ones you rescued give it time and follow your vets instructions, start the antibiotic and be patient, antibiotics are notorious for causing diarrhea in reptiles, if my memory serves correct they have already been on antibiotics? reptile vets are spendy and especially if you are rehabbing (believe me I know ) as they have constant appointments. If you cannot afford them try to find a rescue in your area that can help you out, be aware that not all of them are goingto be so excited to take in your sick animals as it risks a lot to their others already in care, and it is instant money out of their pockets. Or you can try to adopt them. It is very easyto get in over your head and you need to do what is right for you, if that means finding new homes for some, then thats okay. I think it is very important that you only have what you can personally handle and afford and it is okay to find some homes for them. As Venus pointed out it is sooooooo easy to get in over your head even when you had the best intentions!

The most important thing is to know you limit. It is kinder to place an animal with someone else then to not give it the correct care. I just took a baby common in to the vet for the tune of $85.00 and she will need to go back two more times. If you decide to place them let me know and maybe I can point you in the right direction here in MI.

Yea. I am not looking to place my ones still on meds. I have taken 6 in as rescues. And 4 of them will be leaving. I am keeping two because I promised two little kids I would keep them. And I will be parting with my female when she is done laying for me.

Despite the cost you really should bring the gecko with the crushed tail into the vet, she could be in pain or have an infection or any number of things. Losing a tail is something they recover from, but I don't know how healthy it is to have it die and rot off rather than having a it removed entirely.

If it was your dog and it's tail looked like that you'd definitely bring it to the vet, the gecko deserves the same treatment.

The crushed tail is worrying me, can you pull the tail off purposly? I'm sure if that would be the right thing to do or not but it could help the situation. The weight problem is common in leopard geckos going on and off sometimes eating alot sometimes refusing food at least this is my experience with my Leopard Geckos.

Best of Luck!
