Its not you doing its the gecko, The gecko would move in and aroudn the water dish wich would cause the water to spill or drip off on the gecko. Not to mention it would get stuck to it.

Slate tiles work wonderfully for me with one gecko and then i've got one on carpet and the 3rd is on paper, but he is hand fed so there isnt a problem with escaping crickets.

Hmm.. A Brown sugar apple cinnamon flavored gecko..
The playsand may or may not work. Find out what kid of sand it is and find out the particle size.

I use repti-carpet and to keep the crix from getting under it, I use clear packing tape around the edges. When I clean the tank and wash the carpet, the tape peels off fine and I just re-apply with the clean carpet. It works well for me. (My girls are pretty good about voiding in one "potty" spot, where I keep a folded paper towel that gets changed often.)

Defently stay away from any loose substrates for Leopard Geckos. Leopard Geckos in the wild live in rocky areas, although sand is part of their natural habitat, LOOSE SAND is NOT. The sand they come across is hard packed sand/clay. The most natural thing for Leopard Geckos would be slate rock or a hard packed sand/clay mix..

Lets not open a can of worms again. Everyone has their own opinion on substrates
