How do you get shed off the toes?

I know I read how here. I just can't find the post. This gecko has a moist hide, but he does not seem to know how to use it. My son moisted the moss and put it in the half log to see if that works.

I used to put mine in a little bit of warm water to soak and kept the hide a little extra moist for the toes.

If a little soak doesn't work, you could get a soft washcloth wet with warm water and then hold the gecko and gently massage the toes with the washcloth.

(ooh, now I want a foot massage, too!)

There's another option (a mix from 2 above) that is to put some warm water in a box (just enough to cover his feet), put the gecko inside for 10 minutes or so and them gently rub it off with q-tips

How long should this take? He still has skin coming off his toes. I had him on the bed the first time squeezing a washcloth onto them. He walked over to my arm and laid his head down then closed his eyes The moist hide is to small. My son wet some moss that is inside his half log. He will lay there.

I would keep checking on the toes and keep working on it. If the shed doesn't come off, it can constrict blood supply and they can lose a toe (eventually -- not right away).

One of my friends had a shed stuck on it's toe and let me tell you it was pretty red after just a day of it being there. I took a qtip and a glass of water and just gently rubed its toes with it. It wasn't impressed but I don't think it woulda been impressed if its toe came off either.

Do you have a humid hide in the cage?. The toes are probly the biggest problem shedding spot for Leopard Geckos. You can gently try a wet Q tip to remove it.

How rough can you be with the washcloth? The person I got him from tells me he is very mellow. He would sit with a 3 year old child. They just said their dogs would not leave him alone. He kept being licked.

I would hold the toes between layers of washcloth and rub gently back and forth. I think you can be a bit vigorous, as long as you are sure you don't do anything that could break the little toes. If you have it, use a fine washcloth, the kind made for babies, and maybe even cut a small piece off of it to use, so you have something sized a bit more appropriately for a leo's foot. If it's a really stubborn problem, try doing a warm-water soak first for 10-15 minutes or so, then do the rubbing.
