Troubles in Leo land

Well one of my Leopard Geckos autumn hasnt been eating that I can tell. So tonight I decided to seperate her from my other leo pebbles and see if she is actually eating. She doesnt seem at all interested in prey objects and has copped a real attitude (hissing and screeching) any suggestions on what I should do in the morning if she hasnt eaten anything? I know the worst case scenario would be to take her back to petco but I really dont want to have to resort to that but if im going to I only have 7 days left in which to do it. So I need some advice and quick

oh as for prey items I put 6 medium sized crix and 4 mealies in the tank. She has a water bowl and a hide as well as a heat source in the form of a Under Tank Heater and some rocks to climb on

PLEASE HELP

If she hasn't been eating it was a good idea to separate them, as Pebbles may have been bullying Autumn. This way you can keep an eye on the poo and see if Autumn is eating.

You're going to have to give her a couple of days to settle in to her new enclosure though before you start expecting her to eat. Ours took a few days to adjust before they really started eating. Also, she may be eating just not in your presence,. leave her alone at night, and see if she goes to the bathroom - that way you will know that she is eating.

How do you mean you know she isn't eating? Is she much smaller than Pebbles? We just got some weighing scales (oh what a fun game to weigh everyone!! ) and it's great for keeping an eye on the animals, inparticularly the ones going into brumation, so we can monitor their weight after winter, and the babies so we can make sure they are growing as they should.

I hope you see an improvement soon. If not then I guess taking her back, or taking her to the vet, would be the way to go. Good luck

She is about a 1/4 of an inch smaller than Pebbles. She only ate one cricket that I know of last night. I only have till next friday to return her, there arent any herp vets in my area that I know of and I cant really afford to take her to one even if there was one.

I know pebbles is eating I have seen her but as for autumn I havent seen her except for a wax worm I gave her when I first got them. and now this one cricket. She may be eating but I cant really tell as there was 2 of them in the tank together ya know. I do know that I would put like 10 crix in the tank and in the morning only 1 or 2 would be left. I just want to be safe ya know, better safe than sorry.

What time of day are you feeding, remember they are a nocturnal species.

hey toadie,

my guess is that she is not eating because she is still a little stressed out. you haven't had her for long, right? and if I remember correctly, she has shed, no? i wouldn't freak about it and take her back to the petstore, she looks from her pic that she is healthy and has a good sized tail for her age.

by the way, what is her age? she looks pretty young...like she is maybe 2-3 inches from nose to vent, right? maybe you should try to feed her small crickets.

good idea separating them, though. she could easily be intimidated by pebbles, especially if she is smaller then pebbles, but even if they are the same size.

That's good, it may have just been one dominating the other like Rachel said, keep us informed.

I got them last friday, yes they have both shed
She is bout 4 n 3/4 inches long and Pebbles is bout 5 inches long. Ill try gettin some small crickets but they seem to not live very long so thats the problem. I will be gettin a shipment of 1/2 inch crickets next week so I hope thats small enough. I sure you u guys are right about this. I appreciate the advice, i love them both like crazy already.

Well off to make my little project for the weekend, im making molds of some wood pieces that I have out of plaster a paris so should be pretty neat looking.

well gang there is some good news on the home front. Autumn is eating she has eaten 3 of the 6 crickets I put in there last night. Which makes me feel much better. Maybe I was over reacting cuz I hadnt seen her eat but better safe than sorry right?

Great news Ryan.. I'm glad you can be sure that she has eaten.

She may have been eating and you may just not have seen her, but as you said it is better to be safe.

Try leaving her on her own for a short while longer so you can be sure she is eating and pooping normally, then change the tank and re-introduce the two back together if you feel comfortable with the fact that they are both ok.

Good luck! So glad she seems to be ok afterall
