Lighting

Yes I have a question about lighting. I am getting three new geckos and a guy yelled at me for using night glo. Is that okay. My house and room can get as low as 60 at night or would I be okay without the light.

Hello I'm new here but can help you a bit. Red heat bulbs are your best choice. Leopard Geckos can see the other types of light, the black, blue, purple, etc, while the red they can't and it doesn't disturb their night time cycle. Also, you're using this to keep the ambient temps up at night? Are you using any other heat source? How are you housing the 3 new Leopard Geckos you're getting?

60 is too cool for them at night. So a heat source would be necessary for them. Either a light or a Under Tank Heater.

I would go with a Under Tank Heater because then you dont have to worry about lighting

Heatpad and if you want a light use a red bulb.

Hello,

You could also use a HE or Ceramic Heat Emitter. Both emit heat with no visible light. I would suggest the HE (Mega Heat Emitter). The Under Tank Heater is great for belly heat but does nothing for the ambient temperatures. The enclosure would still be 60 and that would be too cool.

Leopard geckos are nocturnal, the ambient temperatures need to be raised so they can freely move around. I suggest the Under Tank Heater as well, but you need another heat source in addition to the Under Tank Heater.

I use a Under Tank Heater with a low watt bulb. Its okay to have the air like room temp right? Because bulbs cost a lot

Hello,

Its ok to use the rooms temperature so long as it is not too low. If the ambients are too low, the leopard gecko will be more inclined to remain where the belly heat is opposed to moving about the enclosure freely.

I use the Under Tank Heater, leave it on 24/7. I also have a lamp on top of the tank with a bulb that pet store recommended (not sure what kind, its blue and cost like $9) I only leave that on during the day. But with this buld the air temp in the tank never goes above 86 during the day. Should I switch bulbs to get the temp a little higher or is 86 during the day okay? She stays in her hide in the hot end all day but as soon as I turn the light off and feed her she moves all over the tank. So she seems to be doing okay.
