If you are only using the bulb for daytime heat and turning it off at night, skip the high priced petstore bulbs. Just use a regular household bulb. All you are doing is providing heat and they will work just as well at a fraction of the cost.
But you don't want them burning at night.

I have a bi-light for Lana the female. We have a moon light that my son occasionally uses at night so he can watch her hunt. The new male Merlin has a Under Tank Heater that does not seem to do much of anything. I think it is about 75 in there.

The whole tank is 75 or just the cool end, is that night or day temps?

Okay. I will just use a regular house bulb when this one burns out.

So is 86 degrees an okay daytime air temp in the tank. Of course her hide is much warmer since it sits directly over the Under Tank Heater.

Night time the tank temp goes down to maybe 72ish but I do leave the Under Tank Heater on 24/7 so there is warmer spots in the tank.

From our caresheet.
Quote:
The ideal temperature range to house a leopard gecko at would be 85-95 degrees in the "basking spot". (That would be where the uth is located.)

The cooler end of the enclosure should not fall below 70 degrees but should also not exceed 77 degrees. There should be a hide spot located on this end of the enclosure as well.

I don't see how there is room in this 10 gallon. We will be moving up. I measured him and he is 10 inches long. Barely enough room for 2 hides. If I sent the guage on the floor it goes up to where it should be. It just does not heat the tank at all. I can't imagine how this work when there was sand in there.

Its very hard to get the right temps in a 10 gl, which is why I always suggest a 20 gl long.

I have my little leo in a 10 gallon tank and she is just a baby and it seems small. I am definately going to upgrade to a 20 gal in the near future.

Today I purchased a red light bulb for my leo's cage. The blue bulb seemed so bright shining on her all day. I turned it off at night. This red glass bulb says you can leave it on at night and the red light won't bother the leo. Is that true? I also picked up a digital thermometer with a probe. I put the probe inside her hide on her warm side to see if the red light got her enclosure warm enough. With the blue bulb it topped out at about 90 degrees. I just checked and it is only about 82 with the red bulb. So I guess I am going to have to go back to the other bulb. I guess I could use the red one and night and the blue bulb during the day.
