SOS Gecko on the loose!
Ok, earlier today I stopped by to do some things around the house. Stewie was still in so I gave him a cricket or two just to keep him happy. Just around 5 o'clock, I checked on him one last time and he was GONE!!!
I've checked all rooms, threw everything out of the way and searched every nook and cranny I could find, but I still can't find him.
I've already set out a large bowl with crix in two of the rooms i'm more than certain he's hiding in. Also, the room he's usually in (mine) I'm setting up his heat rock wrapped in a towel in hopes that he'll come out and lay on part of during the night.
Any other suggestions?

look in places you'd least likely expect to find. He will be more active at night which will be a better time to search. Be carefull of the heatrock, I'm sure you have read of the dangers, best of luck.

I know of the dangers of heat rocks, hence why i'm putting towels on top of it. I've searched everywhere though, every little space in the house.

Keep an eye out for him tonight as Ken said. You would be amazed where these guys can go. I lost a leo once for 3 days, and he greeted me at the bathroom door one morning, lol. Maybe when its lights out, you can put a spotlight on the floor for him to go to.

I would be careful about putting towels on it...could cause a fire hazard....How would a leopard gecko get out of a tank??? are you sure he is missing and not inside of a hide or under something????

Well, good news. About an hour ago, I come downstairs to check up to see if he took the bait. Well, I walk in and there he is staring at the plastic box with the crickets in them!
Oh, Stewie, I dunno how, but he learned how to JUMP. I watched him before jump out of his cage. Today I dunno how he did it, but of course I have to do something else to keep him in. Hey, at least I found him.

Hello,
How tall is the enclosure and what do you use as a cover on it? I am glad you found him but I am perplexed as to how he got out.

Perplexed...good word Rich.....I too wonder how a ground dwelling gecko could jump....is your cage only 5 or 6 inches tall???? with no cover????then he could get in a corner and climb out....do you have a pic of his cage???

his cage is that of a typical 10-gal tank. Its 1ft if not taller. I use books on top of towels (to keep the heat trapped in) for added weight. I know he can't crawl out because I've watched him before, and I've watched him jump. Guess I got the smart one...

I am glad you found him! Now go get a screen top!
I would just like to reiterate to anyone reading this.
Wrapping a heat rock in a towel is NOT a good idea!
If the heat rock malfunctions and overheats it can set the towel on fire!
