feeding issues?
Hi
My leo Sunshine is usually a good eater, and I know it is winter so they slow down...but something is not right. I am not sure if it is the new tile floor or what.
She isn't interested in the mealworms...she won't eat out of the dish and barley is interested in the worms on the tile. i think maybe it is cause they can't "run" on the tile..she likes the action. After I fed her those large crickets she only wants those. They move better and she gets more excited...
She did eat mealwroms today cause she was really hungry. I ran out of crickets and won't get any till Saturday. I wanted her to eat a variety also, but I just don't understand whats going on.

One of our leo's is a very picky eater also, try putting some paper towels down on top of the tile, it will help with traction and will make clean up easier too.

Have you tried to feed her outside the enclosure in a smaller area?

My Leopard Geckos did something like that too. They got tired of crickets feed them meals, they ate them then they got bored of them and went back to crickets lol. Try what the others have said. Its just the change of something or they get bored of it.

ok..I'll give it a try~thanks everyone!
I wouldn't be so woried, but she seems to be loosing her fat tail and tummy =(
So I guess I will do the paper towel and then start giving her more crickets until she want mealies again. Maybe I can get some wax worms as a treat, but that would probably just make her normal feeding worse huh.
oh and I thought maybe it was just her food dish (a redish rusty color) hiding the mealies...and they don't move much in the dish. Except she doesn't even seem interested on the light color tile. I think the paper towel which she is used to should help alot.
Thanks =)

My Leopard Geckos will ONLY eat crickets, period (well, they'll eat waxworms, but I don't give them those). If only offered every few months, they might deign to eat a silkie or mealie, but generally all worms are completely ignored. I gave up, and I just make sure to keep crickets around. Good luck with Miss Sunny!

thanks. I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world for her to eat just crickets...I don't like it cause they stink =) and don't last as long...and I thought I read that Leopard Geckos live longer when fed mealworms...but I am not sure I am correct.

What it comes down to in my book, is we feed what every each individual leo will eat. We have some who will not eat out of the cricket bowls (one with the lip). We have some that won't eat crickets, some that won't eat mealies.

Do you keep track of her weight? Judging from appearances is very deceiving and you won't know for sure unless you weight her.

no I don't have a scale to do it. She ate one cricket I found today, but not the mealworms..so I guess I will have to do the crickets until she decides mealies again. I just dont' understand the change..is it the new tank? the new tile floor? I don't know, but it is really strange. I think possibly me giving her her first large crickets started this crazy behavior..but I suppose as long as she will eat then I should give her the crickets...at least she will eat something. I just can't get any until Saturday...she isn't use to going so long without eating...I will keep trying the mealies until then.
