wax worm question for leo

well, I almost got a second leo today, but I resisted =( I am waiting for a bigger tank and I don't really have the money.

Here is my question. I got wax worms today to try for the first time (also with my other critters Tokay and newt and ACF) well these are really fat and I am afraid my little leo will choke on them...so maybe I shouldn't give it to him...do you all think she could choke on them? These aren't as long as the meal worms I feed (medium to small) but they are really fat...maybe acouple smaller ones I COULD TRY, BUT I AM SORTA SCARED TO RISK IT.

woops sorry for the caps haha..anyway what do you think I should do..oh and what do wax worms eat? same as meal worms?
Thanks so much!

Once my Leopard Geckos had a taste of waxworms, they would never take another mealie. Though last night they really chowed on some hornworms! I don't give my girls waxworms, personally (not after that first container of waxies that caused the picky eating).

The wax worm are really soft and explode when they bit them. I hate getting them out to of the container as they are squishy in your hand. Our Leopard Geckos get them once in a while as a treat along with the rest of their diet.

I am happy to report that she still ate her mealworms this morning =) These come in a container of 50, so I don't know how long they will like...I do have a tokay and a newt that will eat them so hopfully I will have them gone before they die =) I really don't want to feed them too much.

Hello,

Waxworms eat honeycomb. (The comb, not the honey.) It isn't even worth feeding them unless you intend on breeding them.

well how long do they live (fridge or not) when not fed??? like I said it comes in a container of 50 and I didn't want to over feed, but don't want to waste them too =)

edit: I put a half of grape and piece of apple in earlier, but I guess they wo't eat that huh =)

Hello,

Nope, they won't eat that. They actyually extract the pollen from the honeycomb by chewing on the wax. If you see any dead waxies in there, remove them. The dead ones can kill the rest of them. I have had them last a few weeks, with daily cleanings of the dead ones, with no food added.

I keep them at room temperature or in a closet btw. I don't refrigerate them.
