The red bulb does emit some heat, though probably not enough. I believe they are geared more toward being able to observe your Leopard Geckos at night rather than for heating purposes. If you do decide on a Ceramic Heat Emitter you WILL need some sort of STAT to control the temps, especially if you are using only a 10 gallon tank. The Ceramic Heat Emitter will get very hot and without some sort of thermostat control you will probably cook your leo. It's just something to keep in mind.

A Under Tank Heater (under tank heater) is also a good idea. They will keep the temp up without any visible light. You should always use a stat on them as well.

The Long and Short is there is no recipe, no formula, each situation is different based on all the variables you can think of and some you can't. For my wifes set up she uses 20 watt halogens with red filters (to cut back the visible spectrum, letting the geckos sleep at night) these 20 watts on a dimmer will project a good 90 degree spot 12 inches away being small they provide an excellent heat gradient. She has 16 happy healthy geckos.

My wifes sister used a red bulb in a small heat lamp, sat directly on the screen top, this provided a decent gradient though I didn't get any exact measurements.

These and ever one else's work for their situation. It largely depends on your fund level, cheap way red bulb w/ the heat lamp fixture (it helps to direct the heat) and a Home depot dimmer. Your gecko will also tell you whats right and wrong, if it's sleeping outside a hide in the coldest location it's likely to hot in the entire enclosure. If it's sleeping outside in the hottest then temps need to come up a bit (unless theres other factors). Normally ours sleep IN the humid hide which should always be on the warm side.

As we speak Jody is putting in some remote thermometers to monitor the exact temps of the humid hide and the cold side 8 bucks each at wal mart.

always dust the crickets, use a under tank heating thing of some kind. It's better to use them because they're ground dwelling creatures and want the floor to be warm not the air up top that they can't reach. Do NOT put it inside the tank...it covers to much and they all get to hot. Prop the tank up with something so the cord isn't being cut off by the weight of the tank. (You can get rubber stopper and things at hardware walmart or zellers stores. heat sources:
Under Tank Heater
human heating pad (with no auto shut off)
heat rope
heat tape
what ever other weird things are out there these days.
If you use the Under Tank Heater remember that you can never remove it and use it again.

ALWAYS AWLWAYS ALWAYS give them a PURE calcium dish so they can regulate their calcium intake...a lot of the dust on the worms or crickets come off when they've been in the tank a while, but you should dust them also...and with a multivitamin every now and then...make sure your giving him pure calcium and not calcium with D3 (I was told it can be deadly if given in large amounts...like it's not a good idea to put something that's never in sun in sun all the time I guess) expecially in the calcium dish. If you want to use up the D3 give a bit to him on his food once every 2 or 3 weeks, which can apparently help them absorb calcium better but I'm not sure if the dust actually works...I know sunlight does.

And...don't put a leo on sand.
