Hehehe I feel your glee! I was told not to get the stick on tiles because sometimes the glue can be toxic and having that on top of something that's heated isn't a good combonation for fumes (reason for nonadhesive shelf tile), so be careful about it...Putting glue on a heater in ur room and sitting by it and sniffing it for the rest of the day might seem like a good idea to you but not to your gecko hehehe...Just be sure of what kind of stuff they're using to stick it. You can get the tile at any hardware store or flooring store...some places cut the tile themselves but you can also get a tile cutter at the hardware store. Non adhesive ceramic and slate tile seem to look the most natural. Make sure you measure the inside of the tank so you're able to fit it in. Another bad thing about the reptile carpet is the clean up...he's pooping away and sure you might have a piece of paper towel down over that but it's still absorbing into the carpet and though it might look clean it isn't and where geckos tend to poop every day I was getting fed up with cleaning it alll the timeee. Tiles you can just wipe clean. I get worried every time I hear someone say "I got a gecko"! I turned someone against getting one because I didn't think he could care for it. But when I saw your post I was happy, you seem responsible and have been looking on the forums for months! Congrats! We need pictures!

I have always LOVED Skittles! The cutest and the videos are the best! Anyway, I think I would like the slate tiles...easy clean up and looks natural =) I am waiting for my baby to get bigger though...and I might get a 20L or something when I get the chance so I will have to keep looking...especially before I buy the floor..I am still keeping a close eye on the temps because the cooler weather in the morning and the it warms up and gets cold...AHHH it is crazy..and effecting the heat in ALL my tanks>so I have been tring to get it figured out..hopefully soon the heat will be turned on and I will have a more stable temp to work with...so far things seem ok...my Leopard Geckos head is getting dull so I have a feeling maybe a shed is coming =) He ate like crazy these two night..at least I thought so I'd say the first night 2 when I first put him in the tank...then 4 that night (mealworms) and then the next day he ate I think about 5 all together is that normal? I tried to put a ricket in but he hasn't ate it..If he doesn't eat it tonight then I will take it out...the cricket can't get out of the food dish so I am not afraid it will bite my leo...of course that might be why he hasn't ate it...he seems to like the mealworms out of the food dish...and then he POOPS in the food dish..of all places =) funny! It was easy to clean though so I can't complain =)

lol You might want to try moving the food dish somewhere else...I had to do that...Skittles pooped in his water all the time, he thought he had a flushing pooping place. Yup sounds like he's getting ready to shed! How old is he do you know? When I first got Skittles at 6 weeks old the breeder said that he should be eating about 5-10 a day though he ate a lot more. 5 sounds great though expecially if he looks dull. He probably won't eat for a couple days while he's shedding, after Skittles shed he turns into a pig. I've been having troubles with the temperatures to...I have the Under Tank Heater on a dimmer but I've been trying to find a reptile thermostat because I don't really feel up to making one on my own but can't find any in town.

the Under Tank Heater I have doesn't seem to get too hot, just a nice warm...I don't have a thermostat...do you think I need one? I know I need a temp thing for the floor, but I was thinking of putting temp strips over the Under Tank Heater to moniter the temp, but I don't know if that would work.
I don't know how old he is his size is about 3 inches long...his tail isn't fat though I guess cause he is a baby =)
How much does your leo eat? I am curious and sorta want to know what to expect when mine grows~lol I read that 4 is a good amount to feed> but ya know you can't believe everything you hear/read! Anyway, My mealsworms from petsmart come in a container of 50...I am not sure how accurate the count is, but I expect (at least for now) it would last about 10 days if he eats 5 a night. he only ate 4 today, but I put a small cricket in there...thining he would like to chase it =) I haven't seen him eat crickets yet, but I don't see why he couldn't. So let me know what you think cause you have experience and I need to learn as much as possible~I feel like I am trying to play catch up cuae when I seen him I had to get him and I wasn't ready, like I didn't have the set up or asscesories, but I think I got some nice decorations and hides...for the prices> Whoa! ha but I knew that prices are high. I could have made some things, but I liked the look of this stuff.
I still need a smaller hide, but he doesn't seem to really hide much (except for the first day) Do you think it is because the hides are TOO BIG for a baby? I haven't put the half of toilet paper roll in..I will try that tomorrow, at least until I get the "prettier" log which is sorta the same shape of a the roll suggested by amy...I put the smaller rock cave in thinking that would be a good closed in dark spot, but I don't know.

If he's not hiding I think it just means he's comftorable. Skittles likes to come out and watch me type on the computer...he finds me boring...and eventually drops his head down and watches...and then closes one eye...then the other...I'm so boring. Thermostats are a great idea but I don't think they're needed...I'd like one but I don't have one yet...I'd mainly like one because moms going through 'the change' and always opens windows so I always have to have my door closed (disadvantage of getting a degree after 2 diplomas...living with parents arghh). Yeah I'm sure his tail will fatten up in no time. Just let him eat as much as he would like. Skittles eats about 15 worms a day . He went from 5 to 10 in a couple days and up to the 10-15 mark ever since in like the first week or so I had him but his brothers and sisters weren't eating that much. but I'm having problems right now if you've read my other thread he hasn't eaten for like a week...I'm not sure if it's do to the weather changing or not but he ate a worm today. It's odd he's still fat but active and not interested in food...I think he might be actually going into a shed now to :|. Skittles LOVEEESSS paper rolls lol. He's kinda to big for them now but that's what he was in when I got him and he was moving it with his nose and wasn't shedding...weirdo..

too cute =) I hope I am doing stuff right...I am trying to learn from him and of course you all =) I guess I will figure outhis patterns eventually. It is harder the first couple weeks I guess, expecially when it is my first one, so I will just buy lots of food and feed what he eats until I can just know like you =)
Do you feed your mealworms or just put them in the fridge?

Sounds like your doing fine! Do you mean gutload before feeding? All mealworms should be gutloaded before feeding. Apparently apple and pottato is good for a moisture source then you can put something in like chicken mash or oatmeal as their main food source and don't leave the apple in to long. I get my gutloads from canadian feeders but any food will do. But if you can get your hands on bee pollen it really makes powder stick to the worms. It smells awful but when the worms poop it out it smells wonderful somehow...I also have alfalfa which they don't seem to like and chicken mash which they really seem to love but I try to switch it up for nutrition and sometimes different cereals.
You can put them in the fridge and it slow's their growth and usually lasts longer. I usually take about 25 or so out and gutload for 2 days. Then every time I put some in the tank I take a couple more out. The white ones are easier to digest so sometimes if I find a white one in the fridge I'll give it to him right away.

you know so much! Thanks, I have been keeping them out of the fridge and feeding apples and oats...so I guess I am doing ok. I tried giving the mealworms broccoli, but I don't think they like it. I am going to add some cereal today. I guess I will start getting two containers, so I can keep some in the fridge and others out...thanks! I was thinking about "keeping" loads of mealworms, but I don't think I want to bother with a large amount and then having something else to CLEAN~I guess acouple bucks everyweek sin't too bad...but I have to multiply that times 3-4 now lol...plus my other pets! I guess it isn't too bad.
My baby leo ate from my hands last night too! I was soo happy! He is the cutest!..When I cleaned his cages yesterday, he was on my back and I couldn't get him for the longest time, so I was bent over looking in the mirror trying to catch him> lol if someone saw in from the window they probably thought I was crazy! ha ha! Then Matt (3 years old) was laughing and jumping around ~scaring the baby to death~which made it even harder to catch him! I can tell this going to be fun!

I heard apples boost them a lot in vitamins. Make sure you switch the worms food up so it varies the geckos diet to. Yeah they don't seem to eat much or do anything at all when they're in the fridge plus that means less mess poop wise. Plus when you have a couple days of worms in a container they make less mess then a bunch of eating ones. And just to note...I usually take the fridge ones out once a week to let them feed and shed their skin for a couple hours.
ADVICE FOR CLEANING: Get something mesh like cheese cloth and put it over the container...tip it up side down over the garbage can shake...getting rid of all the **** and poof quick cleanup.
Thanks, I feel like I've learned a lot but it's always great to get other peoples opinions. At first someone told me to put them in the freezer and they 'hybernate' so stupid me listened and killed them all. That's the main reason why I usually ask 10 people a question before I settle on my own answer.
Another note when I was going to get Skittles I went to 4 pet stores and asked them how often they carry worms and they said that they're always in stock and then I killed my worms by freezer accident and couldn't get any from the 4 pet stores so always keep food handy...the bad thing about the pet store worms (here anyway) is, they're usually older and in reallly bad shape, a couple dead, once they get to me so I order them online (I'm in love with that canadianfeeders site lol ordering worms with mice makes it a whole lot cheeper on me to...5 bucks for 100 worms in pet store...3 bucks for 250 on that site) so online is the way to go just make sure you find a site you trust but boy are the Chytrid Fungus worms healthier and livelier and I usually get way more then I ask and I haven't had one die on me yet (aside from the couple that were my fault for not noticing the piece of food going bad). If you have anything that eats mice though it's completely worth your while to buy online (mice are cheeper there to)
I love it when they eat from hands! Watch out though if you spoil him he'll expect it all the time! And not sure if your aware yet but Leopard Geckos like to run into the nothing so make sure they don't fall off any cliffs!
