Abonormal Activities
ok I'm beginning to worry Joe...he's been acting...very very active. Like all day and all night he is constantly circling around and around and up and down his tank and he's doing it now. I fed him today. He never use to rub his nose against the tank but now he's constanly doing it and I would just like to know if anyone has any ideas why all of a sudden...after years...he'd become so active and insistant on getting out of his tank for the past week or so. I know that kings are known as excape artists but this is really not like him...every now and then but not all day and night. I started actually thinking that maybe he has parasites since I dewormed him but I just had a magnifying glass to him and he's looking fine. He looks like he's a bit on the sheddy side but his eyes haven't turned blue and he's abnormally active when he usually goes so still forever and a day right before a shed. It's great that I have something to constantly watch and who's constantly watching me but I'm just worried there's something wrong...

Mine go through "active" periods evey once in a while, more so when the temps warm up in the late spring (like now). What size tank is he in ?

Snakes go through periods where they may behave in what appears to us to be an odd fashion. However to them it often makes perfect sense. He may be maturing and coming into breeding season. There may a new scent in the air that he is interested in. He may be needing to be fed more often. The best thing to do is carefully think and see if there is anything that has changed in the area of the cage. For example I have certain incenses that are guaranteed to make my Ball pythons come out and investigate.
But keeping a close eye out and noting changes in the behavior is the sign of a good keeper!

His tank is 3 feet by 2 feet and he can stretch across the whole tank. He definitly doesn't need to be fed anymore he only accepts so much. I guess he could be smelling away at the spring air because the front door has been open for the past couple of days but this room hasn't because I didn't want it to get cold. Thanks for the help guy's I'm less worried now but he is definitly trying to escape more then usual. Every time I wake up at night he's stretched himself up to the screen

Maybe you should consider getting him a bigger tank, to better suit the "explorer" in him. This way when he does go through these periods he will have more room to investigate.
