Screen top

ok so I have an aquarium for Joe with a screen top. It's kinda weird because I've heard that king snakes aren't ones for climbing but since he 'escaped' from his feeding container about a month ago he's been getting at the very top of the vine in his tank and examining the top. Now I've heard a lot of horror stories about snakes rubbing their noses off on screen tops so whenever I see him doing it I give him a spritz of water. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything I can do to keep him from doing it? He obviously isn't satisfied with his tank anymore since he found the spot under my dresser!. Is there anything I can do to prevent him from rubing his nose?

I would stop spritzing him. You are teaching him to associate your presence with something unpleasant.
All snakes are capable of climbing. And I wouldn't worry about him investigating the top unless you start to see actual physical damage to his nose. All snakes do as you are describing. They NEVER stop investigating their enclosures for possible escape routes. My pythons do this dance nightly to no ill effect.
Except when they get unbalanced and fall over creating a loud THUMP! in the night!

I agree with Merlin. My pythons are always checking out the top and I have screen lids also. Just keep an eye on him.

my snakes all have screen tops as well. my littlest corn climbs up anything he can get to and climbs along the edge. he also will lose his balance occassionally and I hear him fall. but he gets right back up and tries again lol.
