Whenever possible I go with an adult food item over a baby. The babies they are more fat than anything else, adults have more protein, calcium and hair. The hair acts like fiber does in herbivores and omnivores and helps with proper digestion. My king gets f/t large mice.

Rats are more nutritional than mice. I have always fed rats over mice. If the reptile has a girth that can handle a rat then by all means feed it the rat. ( prey item should be 1 to 1 1/4 times the widest point of the reptiles girth but no more than 2 ro 3 times the reptile's head size as to avoid jaw injury.) I hope that this helps.

For general information I knew that the nutrition chart was somewhere in my computer.

If your King snake will eat a rat then try him with rats by all means - as an adult he will be capable of eating weaner or small rats. However, you may find that he prefers mice, and if so then it's no problem sticking to mice.

Our adult King has eaten the occasional rat in the past, but he often refuses them in favour of mice, and will generally eat two mice a week - won't eat any more, although he goes off food during the winter. You just have to find what's right for you and for the snake. There's nothing wrong with feeding him mice if he's eating well on them.
