New King

Okay, so in a few days I will be getting a black mexican kingsnake. I know what I am doing and I know how to take care of it and everything. I am not new to snakes. But it is my first time with a king and I would like to hear any advice from people who have had kings and would like to share their stories with me. : ) Thanks guys.

Re: New King

Black kings are really easy going snakes. I've never had feeding issues with any of mine. They all have great feeding responses. They are just as easily kept as any other snake, very hardy. I just love how they look once adult, short thick snake with a fat head. Very stunning animals IMO one of my fav kings.

Re: New King

Thanks. I've only heard good things about kings so I am pretty excited. I've heard they are pretty nippy. I did co-op at a pet store and there were albino calis there and like, they wouldn't let you go near them... I'm just worried my Mexican will be like that. I don't want to get a snake that I can't touch. But the guy is just keeping it for another feed or something because they are not ready to go so he will be just a baby.

Re: New King

Even if he does turn out to be a little nippy, that would be normal for a baby. The more you work with them, the better your chances he will turn out to be more calm. It doesn't always happen and sometimes you do get a biter but I think you'll be alright. Though kings do like to musk so just be ready for that, it smells! lol

Just remember to give it at least a week to settle in before handling.

Looking forward to pics in the future!

Re: New King

Lots of baby kings will huff puff and strike at you, but half of it is bluff. Yeah they will bite, but its just a defensive thing they do because they are small and vulnerable. Most calm down in a month or so. They never stay that way so you shouldn't have any problems with keeping and having a handle able king snake.
