Fasting Kingsnake

My snake Caesar has not eaten in two months! I've had him 2 1/2 years. We had problems feeding him in the beginning. I took him in as a hatchling and the breeder didn't want to sell him to me. Said the snake wasn't eating and would probably die. But that's the way I am -- a runt-of-the-litter lover. So I took him and got him to eat by scenting the pinks with lizard juice. Now it seems like deja vu. He was eating every other week and now nothing. I feed small adult f/t mice which he was doing fine on before and just stopped. My vet suggested I try some different sizes. That didn't work. He said to try putting him in a paper bag for privacy. Caesar just ignored the mouse and concentrated on getting out of the bag. He crawls over the mice like they are not even there. He is active and feels solid and strong, but I'm getting scared. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow to try to rule out parasites or mouth rot or whatever other creepy things can cause a snake to go off food. Is it possibly a winter thing? I'd feel better to know that someone else has experienced this!

Thanks!

that is EXACTLY what Joe was doing (completely denying the mouse was even there slithering past it like its substrate). I was beginning to think something was wrong because he never not eats and he's 4 years old. I kept trying to feed him every week normally and not forcing anything and then one day I noticed him trying to escape out of the tank and figured maybe he's hungry now and woopie I was right.

Like Lyn, I have a male milk snake which last ate late October and I am not concerned as it is a natural winter thing. If you are concerned, make a weekly check of the weight of the king and it should not go down much if there is nothing wrong with him.

the same thing is happening to me at the minute, i got my king as a hatchling in august and she fed fine until I changed to small fuzzies and then she two of them then stopped eating, i fed her f/t and tried warming the food up a bit with hot water, she ate fine, then next week the same again! its strange as she is pooping and shedding fine (probably better than when she was eating!) so I too think its a winter thing but im trying feeding again tonight! keep us posted.

Since winter is coming on have you checked your temps? Unless your systems are thermostatically controlled the drop in the ambient room temperature can lower the temperature in the enclosure convincng the snake that it is time to brumate.

Snakes can go incredible amounts of time without feeding! It drives people who aren't accustomed to snake metabolisms nuts!
My California king takes periods where she doesn't feed, at times for a couple of months and then out of the blue it starts up again.
As long as the snake is active, drinking and not losing any weight I would not get too concerned.

Yea i'm going to have to agree as long as she is drinking and cruisin and not loosing any weight you should be ok. I kow you said she ate, but she may give you a hard time from hear to end of winter, so relax, and good luck!!
