Clam Shrimp Videos

I recently had some clam shrimp hatch from my dirt.

Using my usb microscope, I took various videos and converted them to animated gifs which are on continuous loop. These first 2 images are short clips showing species movement and size.

This first image is a clam shrimp at 3 days old. The actual size of the image is 2.1 mm tall by 2.8 mm wide. This is at 60x magnification. File size is 2.09 mb

This second video was taken 24 hours later. These animals reach breeding size in 4-7 days. They grow really fast!!!
This image is also at 60x. I tried cutting out some of the background image to reduce file size. File size is 1.5 mb.

This last video was taken by placing my microscope on top of the aquarium pointing into the water. The lighting isnt as good since it is now top lit, but you can still see everything swimming around. Also this time the magnification was at 10x, but I reduced the image size by 50%. I also deleted every other frame to reduce file size so they are swimming slightly faster than actual. This animation is on a 10 second loop, and the file size is 5mb, so it might take a while to load for anyone with a slow connection.

Cool video, thanks for sharing. Are Clam Shrimp what are in the Sea Monkey kits you can buy? I remember have one of those kits as a kid and watching for hour on end.

Brine Shrimp are in the Sea Monkey kits. They are similar to Fairy Shrimp, except brine are salt-water. In the 10 second clip, the long skinny ones are fairy shrimp.

I dont believe anyone except me currently sells a kit with clam shrimp in it.

Im active on a lot of specialized forums. I generally view this forum as targeting keeping and breeding animals. These inverts are the only animals I keep.

All of my herp interests involve field work.

As you see in this image, the shrimp is inside a transparent bivalve shell. See the outline of the shell around the creature. In the 10 second video above, there are brief time you can see both halves of the shell. The first 2 animations are a side view, the 3rd is a top view.
