Introduction and Hello. Do u know why a leopard gecko's color becomes more gray ??
I found this website after searching for information about my Leopard Geckos. I have two. One (the older male) started looking pale and his colors aren't as bright yellow and orange - he's more gray and black with a few areas of yellow. I thought something was wrong so I started searching for information. A friend of mine who raises geckos started my gecko collection for my young son. At first, I was really unexcited about geckos, but now he's wonderful. We've had him for 3 years and he jumps on the spoon everytime we clean out his aquarium. he's funny. he loves his back rubbed and will arch it and sit still while u rub his back. We added a female to the cage about 6 months ago. She's doing great! fat and sassy. No one ever told me to use a multivitamin. I think i will try to find one at the petshop. I will also try to feed the crickets better to fatten' them up. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be grateful to read your information. He's eating well. I increased his calcium and it has seemed to help a little. Even though i wasn't to keen on him at first - It didn't take me long to love him. I get him out almost everyday to pet and love him. He's riden in the pocket of my hoody sweatshirt to the store before. OK! that's probably a little crazy! ha ha!

Hello and welcome to HCN! I am no expert when it comes to Leopard Geckos but my first thought reading this was it sounded like you were describing an impending shed. However if you have had the gecko for 3 years I imagine you have seen that condition before.
It is fairly common, in general, for a lizard's colors to change and become less dramatic as they age. I'll let some of the more Gecko wise folks here add their opinions.

Welcome to HC Network, I also was thinking shed, but maybe as he is aging, he is just changing coloration a bit. Perhaps posting a picture of him would help us out a bit....Lyn

hello welcome to HC! glad you joined us. i first thought that he was about to shed as well. i don't have any geckos of my own but i used to work in a pet store and with the info i learned on here about them they dull in color before a shed. but like others have stated since you've had him for three years you probably would have noticed. unless you just never though much of it and never noticed. lol could be. sometimes i never notice if my snakes are in shed unless i go to handle them because they like to spend time in their shoeboxes.
and Leopard Geckos eat their shed so you probably never found it.
