Hi everyone. This is new for me.

I am not sure what exactly to do. I am new. I have a Tokay Gecko. I sorta rescued (her I think) from a friend of a friend. She went from a 10 gallon, no heat, water, or food to a 55 gallon, with a fountain, and a never ending supply of food. I am trying to get the humidity right, though. I have alot of water, live plants, a heat rock, and a heat lamp. Plus, I just put a plexiglass on half the tank. I still can't get the humidity to go above 40% when the light is turned on. I think the humidity is around 50% or so when the light is off. I also had a problem with the fountain leaking...I had water on the bottom and didn't know it. My gecko didn't look good, so when I took a closer look I found it. The bark hid the accumulating water, so I didn't realize it. Now, I have a smaller fountain that I keep a close eye on it. She looks happy now. I even got her to shed. I didn't realize they kinda shed like snakes. I have a piece of her head...it shows her eyes, the little bumps, and her nose and ear holes. I was amazed. I don't know how old she is, and I haven't named her because I wasn't for sure if she is really a girl. (For now I call her Gecky)Thanks for listening! If there is anything I could try to make her more comfortable please let me know. Thanks, oh for now I am having problems with my email, so I don't know if I can get response here or not.

Hi Paige,,welcome to Herpcenter Network.

Congrats on the rescue. First I would remove the heat rock...it can cause burns and damage to your gecko. For the humidity, you can try covering 1/2 the tank like with foil or towel, this may help increase it to where you need it. I am sure others will be along shortly with more tips and tricks for increasing it.

I keep a towel over 1/2 of the top,,,when I make my daily "misting" rounds for all the critters I just spray a little extra on the towel and it keeps the humidity up.

Welcome to HerpCenter! You can read your replies here attached to this post.
I too recommend getting the heat rock out of there. They are known to malfunction and cause burns. Also since you have had issues with water pooling in the tank it is an electrical hazard.

Do you have a humidity gauge or are you truly guessing?

Welcome to HCN, cutt he cord off of that heatrock and use it as a tank decoration first off, and as for humidity it sounds like you are doing your best, but you can tr misting the cagew ith a spray bottle throughout the day and if that doesnt help you can try to get a fogger to put in the fountain.

Hey! Yes, I do have a humidity and temp gauge. I was wrong though, the humidity is around 60% during the night with the light off and 40% with the light on during the day. Also, I now think my gecko is a boy. I keep looking on website trying to get more info. Yesterday I found some calls I could listen to. My gecko sounds more like a male mating call. Plus, I don't have water problems anymore because I took out the bad fountain and put in a smaller one. Thanks for your replies. My gecko likes the heat rock. I will remove it because I didn't know it would hurt him. He does lay on it though. Also, the crickets hide around it. Will the towel work beter then the plexi glass, or should I leave the plexi glass and add the towel to the other side?
My total pets include a female african clawed frog (that was supposed to be a dwarf, but grew until my fish were gone) a female godzilla newt, a male beta, two cockatiels a white female and a grey male, a male english spot rabbit, a male tiger stripped cat , and a male chocolate lab. I can't get any more until I get a bigger house, just kidding.
