new member need info too

hi all i'm new to the forum i'm looking for cornsnake breeding info. this is my 2nd yr. at attempting this . last yr I just used a tupperware container only 2 eggs hatched out of 28. i'm having the same problem this yr only i'm using a hova bator this yr. i can't seem to get the ambient humidity above 40% why is this? i couldn't find course vermiculite so what I did was mixed sphagum moss with fine vermiculite to make it more airy. the moss I wet then wrung it out the vermiculite I mixed the same weight of water as weight of vermiculite put both of these in a covered plastic dish with small holes in it. i put the dish in the hova bator temps are good but ambient humidity too low. i then added water to hova bator not to the moist hide but humidity stayed at 40% why is this? any suggestions is needed thanks gail

Hi and welcome to Herpcenter. Try putting a damp papertowel over the eggs and spraying the lid and sides to increase your humidity.

Welcome to the HCN Gale. To help keep humidity up I would do what Marsha suggested, that should keep the humidity up without making the eggs go bad good luck snd keep us posted!
