Hello

Hi,

Just thought i'd introduce myself. I'm kirsty and i've got a baby ig who's about 4-6 months old and really cute. He's had a really rough start when I bought him he had only hal a tail and he lost another few inches due to infection. This has now been treated by an experienced rep vet who teaches at the glasgow vet school. My ig is eating well I think but exactly how much does a baby ig eat??

Any advice would be warmly welcomed!!

I did have a 18 month old ig to start with but I was sold a mesh viv which I was told was cat proof I then found out it wasn't. Unfortunately my cats got through it and attacked my ig he survived the night thanks to my vet but died of shock the next day. Still miss him but have learnt my lesson no cats are allowed unsupervised in the room where my new ig odin is kept.

Hi Kirsty, welcome to IC sorry to hear about your previous ig, misinformation has been the demise of many igs. i will be as brief as I can. Any ig large or small will eat quite a bit they can only extract a certain % of nutrients fromm their food so we try to make their food as healthy as it can be. the rule of thumb is to offer them as much as they can eat, dont worry about the ig getting fat or overeating cuz its not gonna happen. your best bet here is to read the care sheet , if you havent already. id also look into the future of picking up either Melissa Kaplans book or Jim Hatfields book. i could go on and on but I dont have time for it this morning =) your best to just read and read.
you cannot go wrong if you do your homework . once again Welcome!! and on that note I gotta go to work :P

So far i've only had the stress that iguanas cause but i'm sure he'll grow in to a great pet once he settles and is a bit more tame instead of head butting the ends of the tank every time I try to catch him
