Hello,

This would really depend on the space you have and the type of reptile you are looking to get. Both of these species require completely different husbandry as they are both from different habitats.

If I were to say which is easier to care for, I would say Bearded Dragon.

I'll definitely agree with Bearded Dragons being the easier of the two. Water dragons tend to be a bit more skittish and take longer to tame. Bearded Dragons seem acclimated to humans almost right out of the egg, and are a little more tolerant of some of the mistakes beginners might make here and there as they learn. You also don't have to be as concerned with humidity, focusing you instead on learning to maintain temperature, which is a little easier.

I'm in on this one too. I've never personally owned a water dragon but due to the high humidity levels they require and the habitat set up, I would say Bearded Dragons are a good place to start. They are very sociable and, compared to some reptiles, quite easy to care for. Hope to see you over at HC Dragons soon with pics of a new addition

Personally, I would start with something that had less care requirements. Bearded Dragons need a varied diet (fruits, veggies and animal protein), vitamin supplements, UVB... all that can be a bit much for a beginner and if something goes wrong, it can be greatly discouraging.

I would suggest something like an Ackie (Varanus acanthurus). They don't get huge, have great personalities, are carnivores only and do not require UVB. Granted, they are more expensive in the beginning... but with a Bearded Dragon you'd be replacing the UVB every 6 months and that begins to add up. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
