Hi all. I am new to this site (although I do use Iguana Centre quite a lot). I have been advised by a reliable source to post a copy of this thread here to see if any of the UK members can help/would like to participate in this meeting. Ok folks,
on a less funny topic...the one topic most you are now aware of...the proposals by DEFRA to infringe on our right to RESPONSIBLY keep and CARE for our animals! Emails and petitions are falling on "Recyle Bins" and "Waste-Paper baskets" all over DEFRA and probably the RSPCA.

The occassional phone-call, or letter to their offices or local MP's is not working, or if it is, in rare cases, and so little as to be useless. I am hosting a meet with the owners of as many REP forums as possible to discuss important and relevant issues and consequences of DEFRA's proposed legislation. The meet will also discuss our options to do something to save our hobby legally.

It will be hosted by Debs of DNS and myself. The place will be in MSN IM, for those who do not have msn IM, we will make every possible attempt to relay in yahoo IM also. This meet IS IMPORTANT and we have WELL LAID PLANS to put forward for debate and action. Your co-operation is essential to success.

Ok, firstly its good to disscus this stuff, but that is all anyone seems to do, the number of threads I've seen where people say we could do x, y and z and no one does.

Of course all our efforts will fall on deaf ears, we are a small group of people with no big organisation backing, we can't put the same pressure on the government and DEFRA as many other organisation that are against our hobby can.....who would you listen to, the people they regard as experts (even tho thy are far from it) with hugh finacial power plus x amounts of charities behind them or a consortium of hobbiest who say otherwise?

The only way it can be herd is if all reptile organisations FBH, IHS etc pull together, which they finally have, but it needs to go further we need to form links with other exotics groups such as parrot groups etc so that we have a bigger voice and as far as I'm aware the FBH are trying to do this......what we really need is for more people to join socioties so that there is a bigger voice and more money in the coffers....but the big problem is that unless you use online communities there is no way of finding out about the socicties that exist therefore missing out on 10s of 1000s of petential members......
