hey mark,

Thanks for being a good person and adopting an unwanted animal. It's great to see this happen instead of the animal being dumped in a local pond. anyways, water level can be anywhere from 2-5 inches with a land area. the tank can be half land and half water. Use a submersible filter to keep the water clean and change out the water every week to every two weeks. Feeding depends on size and age. Most adult firebellies fare well on being fed once or twice a week with the appropriate size and number of crickets. I usually feed my pair once a week, and feed them 15-20 medium sized crickets for the two of them. Dust every other feeding. no heating needed, in fact too much heat is your enemy. Temps in the low-mid 70's and 60's are perfect.

hope this helps,

Hey Mark,
We should be able to help. I'm confused to how you have a filter, they are semi-aquatic, is the tank divided?

If you could give us a breakdown of:
Temps-
Humidity-
Cage Setup-
Substrate-
Diet-

Hi thanks for the help. The temps. are 88 degrees on land and around 73 degrees in water. I have a ten gal. tank with a lockable screen lid. I put large gravel stones on the bottom of the tank and then took a tupperware container and filled it with potting and reptibark mixed I have alot of fake plants in the dirt and a half of a wooden log for a hide. Also I got a water turtle docking station for him to get in and out of the water and land areas. I have a pump in the water part and some moss floating around. I just put on a little light for him which is on a timer set for six hours a day. I guess I'm feeding to much to him. I gave him 13 crixs when I got him then 12 in another feeding then I let him go without for three days because I thought it was to much. This last feeding I gave him ten and he only ate 7. Is 7 still to much for him? Do you think that twice a week is to much? Also the humidity is around 85 percent

Feeding twice a week shouldn't be a problem. If he starts getting fat, I'd still feed him twice a week, just reduce the number of crickets per feeding. The temps on your land area are a bit warm though. Mid-upper 70s are best, though they'll tolerate temps in the 80s and 60s. Give him more daytime too by doubling the timer's hours. 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness are best. Be sure you dechlorinate the water, and make sure your filter is not too strong. These toads like standing water, not currents. They also feel more secure living in small groups, so if you want you can fit another toad in a 10 gal.
