Greetings and salutations!

Hi All,
Just wanted to say hi! I'm a first-time visitor here, but not a first-time herp owner! My fiance and I are the proud owners of a variety of leopard and African fat tail geckos (totalling thirteen) and are currently working out the kinks in our breeding system. We also have a beautiful young Rosy Corn Snake and a full grown Red Eared Slider turtle. And to top it all off, we have an almost-two-year-old boy!
Here's the detailed list for anyone who's interested:
Leopard Geckos:
Frigga(f) -- Banana Blizzard (unproven), approx. 1yr old
Odin(m) -- Same, sibling to Frigga
Nyssa(f) -- High Yellow Tang, approx 8mos
Astryd(f) -- Tremper Albino, age unknown
Myssta(f) -- Blizzard (possibly midnight), age unknown
Reidun(f) -- Bell Tang Albino, approx 4mos
Arn(m) -- Same
AFT's:
Jaxey(f) -- Our darling mutt who started it all, age unknown
Morpheus(m) -- White stripe, age unknown
Ismerelda aka Issy(f) -- Same
Larry aka "Lawrence of Geckobia" (m) -- 100% het amelanistic, approx 2yrs
Wendy(f) -- Same
Shamu(f) -- Same (and she is VERY appropriately named!)
Rosy Corn Snake: Kahotep aka Kah(m) -- under 1yr
RES: Frankie(unknown) -- age unknown, size of a dinner plate!
Child: Gabe(m) -- munchkin, 21+ mos
So as you can see, we have our house and our hands full!
Liking the site already guys, check our our herp info site as well!

Welcome to HC If you post some pics of your RES, especially of the "ears", cloaca, claws, and a side view of him (plus any other pics you may have) I might be able to sex him/her for you

Hi Dee, welcome to HC, it's a great site.

Sexing RES is easy. Look at the front claws, if they're short like the back ones, you've got a female, males have really long front claws meant for holding onto the female when breeding. Based on the size you said, my guess would be female.

Post lots of pics...and often

Yeah, that was my first thought too. Like esbat said, males usually have much longer front claws than females.

Male:
-flat or concave plastron (bottom shell)
-long front claws
-smaller size than females
-thinner red "ear" than females
-longer tail, with cloaca further out on the tail

Female:
-flat or convex plastron
-short front claws, same proportion as the back ones
-usually larger adult size than males
-often have a nice thick red "ear"
-short tail, with cloaca close to the body

The males have longer front claws because they use them in mating rituals to "tickle" the female's chin. The plastron is sometimes slightly concave to allow him to more easily fit on top of the female's shell, though it's usually just flat. The long thick tail, with the cloaca further out, is so he can reach under the female during mating.

Females are larger, and sometimes have a slightly convex plastron. Both of these traits allow for better egg carrying capacity. They have no need for large front claws like the males, and the same is true for the tail. There's no apparent reason why they have a bigger red stripe than the males though.
