Good morning everyone, I have just lost my beautiful cockatiel and have always been interested and intreaged by the herp world. Would anyone have any suggestions for a good "starter" amphibian?
I have a 35 gallon and 50 gallon aquarium tank with stand that could be used as housing to start.
Please help!!!
birds...

Hello Birds, glad you could make it.

You have lots of choices of amphibs with those tanks. I would research and research, I don't think anything is better as a 'starter' than any other thing. That doesn't really make sense but it all comes down to what you want and what interests you the most. But you could read up on tree frogs, they are one of the easier to care for groups.

Welcome to HC, Birds! I'm sorry to hear that you lost your cockatiel!
I'm not an amphibian keeper, so I can't advise you directly... just check out some of the amphibian forums and threads here, and see if anything interests you... then do your research on it and see if you are willing/able to do what it takes to keep that species.
Have fun with your search!

welcome to HC! glad you joined us. i have a senegal parrot myself and I know how much fun birds can be to have around although he's a pain sometimes lol but what animal isn't? sorry to hear about your cockatiel. they're great birds and though i've never owned them I used to work in a pet store and handled them.

as far as amphibians go, i don't own any myself but I like tree frogs.

Hey Birds, welcome! You have some good space to offer, so you could keep multiple animals per tank. You may want to choose some medium to large amphibs, or you could fit a whole bunch of small ones.

White's tree frogs are a good size. You could fit a small colony of 5 or so in a 55 gallon, though they'd prefer it vertical. If you're up to keeping one large frog, african bullfrogs and marine toads both get pretty big. I'd only house one or 2 in a 55 gallon, though not one of each Keep in mind, marine toads are fairly toxic though. Tiger salamanders are also fairly easy to keep. You could fit several in a tank that size. It all depends on what you're looking for.
