Howdy Long Time Herper, 1st Time Poster

I have had many cold blooded buds, I collected as many snakes as I could find as a wee one, then I hung out with some store bought buddies, Snakes; Boa's ,and Pythons but My wife never warmed up to them, and My kids had the same reaction, I took on some outta town work and had to rehome them broke my heart. Then I came apon a PacMan frog that My wife and kids did like "Killer" was barely an inch long when we got him eight years later he was found dead no warnings he had eaten three days before eating was really the only time he would move, you really had to look hard to see him breath. I decided to again go frog style and since I had become fascinated with Ethnobotanicals I decided to get the one and only Phycodelic toad Bufo Alvarius. And he is so unlike Killer, we hd to get a bigger habitat MrBuff is so active rarely is he in hide, he walks the tanks several times a day he will stare you down. He is less aggressive Killer once tried to eat my son chomped down on his finger I swear it was the funniest thing anyone has ever seen. My son then was about 10 and was feeding a small fish he had dropped the fish to far from him and was reaching to pick it up to move it closer when I yelled a warning just as Killer made his move, My son pulled up his hand and Killer was now attatched to his pointer finger he was up to the first knuckle, I almost peed myself laughing to this day I have not seen anything funnier. MrBuff does not attack much he is shy I have had him about a year I have only seen him try eat twice, but he has grown from 1" to now 2" he poops and grows But for the largest american toad breed as yet I am unimpressed. I feed crickets, and worms daily but he shows little or no interest, two or three times a week I catch bugs for him pill bugs, grubs, millipeds, centipedes, beetles, and even some moles (that ended up eating all the uneaten grubs) He never gave them a second look. I miss the feedings were Killer would pounce on rats that were almost as big as he was. It amazed me how big a meal he could put away, even more now that I see by comparison how inactive he was. Doing research I came across toad videos and have decided to aquire another one that can eat like Killer, and be active as MrBuff

Your toad will grow to his full size this year. Give him time.

If you want a frog with a HUGE attack appetite, look into an african pyxie frog. The males can get as big as a salad plate and will eat full grown mice.

Be careful feeding live rodents to your pets, they can bite them and injure them. I don't suggest leaving crickets etc. in tanks if they aren't going to get eaten either.

And I could be very wrong, but i always had thought millipedes/centipedes were toxic and harmful... Although toads are tough, they might be able to handle it. Someone will most likely correct me if i'm wrong.

I think the only bug which is toxic to frogs is the lightning bug.

And as long as you give the feeder insects something to eat, they will leave your frog/toad alone. I have crickets in with my Red Eye Tree Frog all the time, and there is always a piece of carrot in there.

Also, you toad is fighting the natural instinct to hibernate right now. If you warm up his tank a little, he will perk up. What are his temps at right now?

Millipedes are harmless, but most centipedes possess venom of some type, though only a couple species are even able to bother people, much less have any recorded deaths attributed to their species.

Many creatures which have venom or poison (such as toads) are less affected by other venomous or poisonous creatures, if they are affected at all.
