A Proud "3-week Old Pastel Ball Python" Owner
Hello everyone,
My 14-year old just became a proud owner of 3-week old Pastel Ball Python. We got him yesterday, he explored his whole cage actively. Today I was ecstatic when in classic python style he swallowed a mouse pup. Will post the video as soon as I figure out how to login properly.
Wish us luck.

Re: A Proud "3-week Old Pastel Ball Python" Owner
Welcome to HC! Glad you joined.
I would give him about a week or two to settle into his new home. He will be stressed from the move. It's good that he ate but you shouldn't have done so. Many times stress from a move and a new environment can cause them them not to eat or possibly regurge their food if they have eaten. No handling or feeding while he adjusts. It may seem tempting but he will be nervous enough as it is even if he doesn't show it.
Please read over our caresheet to make sure you have everything you need and things are correct. Good luck with him!

Re: A Proud "3-week Old Pastel Ball Python" Owner
Congratualtions! BPs are great snakes!
I am not sure what you are calling a mouse "pup". Do you mean a pinkie?
If so you need to increase the size of the feeder. You should be going for something as big around as the snake's body at the widest point. People often look at that tiny head and try to feed based on that.
And after feeding there should be a very noticeable bulge.

Re: A Proud "3-week Old Pastel Ball Python" Owner
Thanks all, every bit of info is new and helpful. I did read about leaving him alone and not feeding him for a week, but he sure looked thin and the seller said he had only fed him once. I figured he must be hungry. Yes it was 2 pinkies that he ate (still learning the specific vocabulary), and it was pretty obvious that it did look easy for him to swallow. I will look for something a bit bigger (the size of his middle, he does have an amazingly large yawn). I have been going crazy looking for live rat pinkies (pups? fuzzies?). I guess I will have to settle for frozen, I have to figure out the exact way to get it warm enough, please share your expertise.
Thanks again all, loving my new baby boy, I worry he looks thin. He has been named "Tibirius Sempronius Gracchas".
Enjoying my new community.
