Hi

Hi i'm new, and incase you couldn't tell I own an iguana that i've had for about a month. I have a question, if your iguana starts to get darker does it mean he is sick? The guy at the pet shop said that it has to do with season and the temprature.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

I'm no ig expert, though we do have a few on here, but the darker colouration is most likely to do with temperature and mood, and you will probably notice your ig changing colour at certain times of the day and at other times such as when it sheds.

Post pics, we love pics here, esp. of beautiful reptiles!

Hello,
Welcome to Herp Center! The coloration can be due to season. However, it can also account for many different things as well. Sudden color changes can be a sign of illness. It is also a common sign that the temperatures in the enclosure are inadequate. Darker colors attract more heat. The iguana suddenly darkening itself could be a sign that he is seeking more heat.

Welcome to Herp Center

Glad you could join us...I have 5 iguanas....like Rich said, many different factors could lead to color darkening...check out the temps to make sure they are OK...is your ig eating and defecating daily? have you scheduled a well visit to have your ig checked out by a reputable reptile vet? Have a fecal (poop test) done also to rule out parasites....good luck....Lyn
