Hello!

I just bought a baby water dragon yesterday, and I was searching for info on them and found this site, hoping that it will help. I'm a first-time reptile owner, and the pet store we bought him/her at neglected to tell us that he is a very picky animal. So far, we have figured out that he likes it humid and sand is not very good for him. Any advice or help would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks!
Oh, and I am quite sure that the pet store knew very little of this species.......

Re: Hello!

Hi and welcome to HerpCenter!
You've chosen quite an animal for your first reptile! Here is a link to our caresheet for Chinese Water Dragons. Chinese Water Dragon Caresheet (Physignathus cocincinus) - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database
If you have any more questions, please ask. There are A LOT of water dragon owners here (I'm just not one of them! They're cool, but I'm into snakes!)
Good luck with your new family member!

Welcome to HerpCenter!
Please read the caresheet and then if you have any questions feel free to post them. Also tell us about how you are currently housing your dragon.

As with many reptiles, if the pet store told people what was actually involved in keeping them,....
many would not make the purchase!!

Re: Hello!

We keep him in a 29 gal. tank right now. He has sand, a large water dish, a little basking rock with a place to hide underneath it, a vine and a large stick to climb on, and a tree-thingy that's right underneath his light. We originally bought an incandescent bulb, but we are going to buy a UVB or UVA light for him today. We don't want to put in any real plants yet, but we are also going to buy a fake plant bunchy thing to put in the cooler corner for him to hide behind. I've pretty much fallen in love with him. He's sooo cute! I've attached some pictures of him and his tank. They aren't the best quality, I know

Re: Hello!

Hes a cute little guy, definitely remove the sand as soon as you can, and if you have any further questions feel free to ask away

Re: Hello!

I hate to tell you, but the 29g tank probably won't last you very long. You'll definitely want to start looking into something bigger pretty soon.

Glad you joined us. People in pet stores aren't too reliable with their information most of the time. It's unfortunate. Fortunately we're here to help you with any questions you may have.
