Greetings from Austin, TX

Hello everyone. You may call me Washu, if you'd like.

I've been looking for a herp forum for awhile and was very impressed with this one, so I'm very happy to join.

I happily live in Austin, and I am the Mother of two snakes. A South Florida Mole Kingsnake named Fafnir, and a Corn Snake [Candy Cane morph] named Valentine.

My fiance and I are also preparing and saving for one of our many dream pets, an Asian Water Monitor. It's a little while off, but we're doing all our research and preparing for its needs now.

So, if you have any tips for this particular species or monitors in general, send them my way, please. :]

Re: Greetings from Austin, TX

It really bothers me when people get a pet just because they think 'they're so cool looking!' and then have nothing prepared for the pet and the pet suffers, or the person just gives up the pet, etc. I want to make sure that when I get a pet, that I have everything that will make them comfortable, so they're happy and healthy.

And Venus: Why thank you! Where do you reside?

Welcome to Herp Center. Wow, when you choose a monitor you choose big.
I recommend buying this book. It's based on Savs but it's info is valuable in the keeping of all monitors.

HA! Good reference, I must say; but I was aiming more towards the mythological serpent-dragon of the Norse ages. It was one of the first 'documented' dragons to only have wings, no arms. Thought at one point he was human, I prefer his dragon form. And my little Fafnir has the heart of a dragon.
